Hi guys,as the weathers getting nicer I wanted to get my new piggies an outdoor hutch, they were in the garage to start but have been indoors in our living room since it got really cold.I'm in two minds now though as our garden backs onto a wooded area and iv seen a fox back there before behind the fence. If I put the hutch on my concrete patio rather than the grass so a fox couldn't dig under is that gonna stop them or shall I just keep them in garage permenantly,Odviously they will use a run on grass when I'm out there xx

Hello :) To be honest, if you know that foxes are regular visitors to your garden and you have an alternative housing solution, I wouldn't risk it.

Unless the hutch is VERY secure with padlocks as well as bolts and fox proof wire, foxes can get in to hutches very easily. They can also scare the animals literally to death trying to get to them.

Nothing wrong with them enjoying supervised grass time during the summer months though xx

:agr: better safe than sorry .

When I started keeping Guinea Pigs , I had them in a hutch outside during the summer . Not nowadays !

OK that's great thanks I'll keep them in shed/garage xx
Can they not come indoors, you both Benifit the piggies get a lot of company with you wandering in & out & like all us piggy slaves you end up chatting away to them. I don't think you can use your existing grass as it's probably contaminated with fox pee. I put a piece of turf in a couple of old cages with the cage grid on top, so it keeps vermin away from the turf, so it's quite safe for them to eat.
Does the garage have windows & is it in use
