I've got an old chicken coop but I've been advised that it won't be any good for my new arrivals. What outdoor hutch would you recommend? Has to be outdoor I'm afraid my hubby will not let them live indoors.

I have purchased many of my Piggy Homes from
I live within UK Mainland so the delivery was free, The hutches arrive flat packed but they are real easy to assemble, Hope this helps....

if possible, i'd spend a bit more initially to get a real good quality hutch that will last a long time. the welfare hutches are meant to be amazing quality. there are some other quality hutch makers like boyles pet housing aswell.

Although your chicken coop may not be suitable, there are many online which would be. Also there are various sized hutches at pets at home, the range and other similar shops. I would recommend a 2 tier hutch as it provides a lot of space and I would also recommend that you buy a run so you can put them on some grass to exercise :)

This site can also obtain these hutches from welfare hutches and boyles pet housing aswell. apparently they are to be added to their site shortly

I got a very good hutch from home to roost, very good quality cage has kept warm all winter, good company to order from too as they were very helpful. I also got the hutch hugger and rain cover that also helps loads. I know its secure as we have lots of cats in the area and they have given up. We got the chartwell 4 foot double cage, and as I said the covers and also the starter set which was great value. Hope that helps

It's important to be able to obtain a cover for the hutch so take that into consideration. Like @madd I have the Chartwell from Home to Roost, they sell the thermal cover and the outer cover too. PLUS the bottle covers to save them getting hot and cold during the seasons. I would also consider:
  • Security of the hutch fixings
  • Ability to DIY, using lino for preservation of the hutch life.
  • Lighting in the winter
There are more, but hope that helps.

Yes like @Mother Hubbard I have put lino on my cage, I just went with measurements to carpet shops and found an off cut that fitted that wwas in fact big enough to do my porch too alk for £10!

I have an aviary dedicated to all my female guinea pigs. Though these are expensive to buy/build they are great for providing plenty of space to run around! Mine has plastic coverings around the outside walls as to protect from rain and wind so they don't need to hide in a little house when it's cold and it also protects the, from direct sunlight so it keeps them a little cooler in the summer.
