Hello everyone, I live in Devon, where we have quite mild weather, really. My four piggies live in an outdoors hutch, which is in a very sheltered garden. They have fleece bedding, a substantial hutch cover and microwaveable snuggle safes to keep them warm this time of year. However, it snowed last night and I get very twitchy about them in the cold weather. My six-year-old pig has always lived outdoors and the other three are a lot younger, and seem fine with it too. They are currently having playtime in the downstairs bathroom, which is the coolest room in the house, as I know they aren't good with major temperature changes. My question is, who brings their outdoors pigs in over the winter and who does what I do, occasionally bringing them in for playtime/health checks etc? Very keen for advice!

we do have a few members who keep their guinea pigs outdoors all year round .

it's not what I would do though. I would find it so difficult to clean them out and do health checks .

I keep my pigs outdoors all year round. They get snugglesafes, insulation on the hutch and I go through easily 2-3 times more hay in the colder months. I live in Leicester so most of the worst weather has disappeared by the time it gets inland far enough to reach us or of its coming from the north it tends to lessen with hitting the peak District above us.

Mine come in occasionally for health checks/snuggles though I do all health checks in the kitchen with the back door open so they don't have a massive change in temperature. If they come in for snuggles it's usually short bursts 5-10 mins.

Thanks both. I moved them into the spare room a couple of weeks ago and I they seem so much happier being cosy and warm being inside. And so am I! ☺️

all mine(8 of them) have always been outdoors so wide like to think they're ok with colder temps. When it does get colder i simply give them plenty of straw, hay and hide places to snuggle and give them a heated - and touch wood they've been ok
