I am officially grown up now - I lost my last babytooth today. Yes, at the age of 20 ;D

its a weird one - there was never an adult tooth underneath, for some bizarre reason, my dad has the same, i sort of inherited that from him. Anyway I bit on my tongue piercing half a year ago or so, and where the tooth had been chipped, it started hurting and the hole got bigger.

Because its so much hassle getting a dentist I just left it, until part of the filling I had done ages ago broke out.

I got an emergency appt with the NHS and they just slapped a temporary filling on top and told me to go get myself an appointment with a dental practice (private, of course)

cant really afford it so I left it. until it really started to hurt last week.

so I went to a private dentist today and he took an xray and said that there was an infection, and that they couldnt do much because baby teeth have so little root anyway... so he had to pull it.

As there is no second one I now have a sodding hole in my row of teeth, great... cant afford to have a bridge or crown done private (from 320 pound) and I dont know if I have any chance getting it done on the NHS...

call me toothless old biddy from now on *sigh*

*calls you an old biddy then* :P :P

tooth extractions are soooo not nice especially wisdom teeth, ive had mine out,i guess thats why I'm thick

*sigh*

I wish it was a wisdom tooth, then it wouldnt matter as they are at the back anyway and you cant tell they are missing!

i can feel your pain, especially with an infection theres no pain worse than toothache :( :'(

Yes I agree, toothache and earache :o worse than labour pains ;D

i totally agree, ive had teeth out in the end instead of stupid waste of time root canal etc,its a whole lot easier except when theyre at the front and that must suck

please don't go on about teeth i got to have my two wisdom teeth taken out and i am so scared. i hope it will be better as i am going to be sedated.

youll be better off without them trust me if theyre making you suffer, ive had 3 out,its not as bad as it seems and theyre nothing buit trouble when they stay

Had three wisdom teeth out 18 months or so ago. I had a GA and chose my own anaesthetist ;D ;D ;D

Mouth feels so much better now they have gone. the 4th is growing upwards so may come out too one day.

;D ;D ;D ;D

I've had teeth extracted also and i'm what's called a bleeder so i have to have stitches as well otherwise i haemorrhage :P

Ive had mine out too - I was scared before I went in but it was OK, truly.

I'm my experience, the thought of it was actually scarier than the event

i've had two wisdom teeth out and have been awake both times. one was in italy when i lived there. i was in a room with lots of chairs in, each with a curtain round. as he was injecting the anaesthetic into my gums, the woman in the chair next door started to scream!

had to have stitches too because they were awkward and had to chisel away a bit at my jaw. nice!

much better to have them out than have them in. and if they aren't growing properly, they can ruin your other teeth in front.

ask to keep them too - i still have mine. they are massive!

I had all my wisdom teeth out under a general (Lucinda - RUH Bath - know it?!) years ago and it was fine.

Had a minor ear op, again at Bath, last year to remove a lump that had come up after having a 2nd ear piercing and that was under a local. It was fine, everyone was really nice and I didn't feel anything. The worse thing was that I suddenly realised I could see the operation being done in the reflection of those lights they have right above you - magnified in great detail! It was quite funny really because the machine monitoring my pulse & heart rate suddenly got faster! Gave them a laugh anyway!

So I know it's easy to say but I bet it will be fine. The worst thing is the waiting beforehand. I don't think you'll know anything about it if you're sedated.

Never needed a tooth out since I was a child...poor you. I could faint clean away at the thought of an extarction.

I have got to have 4 taken out, I insisted on GA as I am a total chicken and have not seen a dentist in almost 10 years :o

Oh heavens...how do you sleep at night knowing that :(

Mind, I once had toothache after a filling, infection had set in apparently and I was in agony and I went alone to the dentist after a 12 hour nursing shift and begged him to take it out. Can't believe I did that now...but the pain was excruciating.
Only needed a course of antibiotics in the end ::)

Its taken me 3 years of counseling to agree to have it done. I am terribly scared of dentists

I can understand that. I once worked with a care assistant and she had not been to the dentist for about twenty years or more. Several of her back teeth had broken down to stumps and she lived on Neurofen. I don't see her now, I wonder what happened to her. Sometimes the gums/teeth would get infected and she would register with a dentist and they would prescribe antibiotics before supposedly extracting...but then she never went back and registered with another dentist later.

It sounded really silly, but I believe she was genuinely terrified :(

i was like that it took me a year to get to the dentist and then another year to agree to have them taken out and then another year wait for a appointment at the hospital which is on march 13th this year.

My wisdom teeth are fine but i have a flap of gum by my bottom one and it keeps getting painful so they said that it would be best to have my tooth taken out which will help the gum and while they are there they will take my top one out. Charming.

i am so scared i did ask to be knocked out but they said i woudl be better off sedated.

i was told 2 years ago that I needed a filling - my first one - not bad as I am now 36 - but I am too scared to go to have it done.

I am not afraid of the dentists - I am afraid of the NEEDLE. I am an absolute wimp. i had to go to hospital last year for an IV injection. After several attempts, guess what, they gave up. I was that bad.

I know I must go and have my filling. Can they do them without injections? I wil enquire when I take the kids for their checkups.

I used to find the injections really painful, maybe it was the dentist, got a different one now, but don't find them painful now (blood test is a different matter!). I always ask the dentist for the maximum amount of anaesthetic because I definitely do not want to feel anything! I think it's always best to tell the dentist you're petrified (just in case he hasn't heard my shaking knees or noticed my deathly white face!).

Line a real treat up for yourself afterwards - like personal bribery to get you through it.
