I’m from the states and have always found this forum so knowledgable as it seems you are way more advanced in Guinea heath in the UK so thanks for always giving me great Info.

My 5 year old Ruby eye female piggy has what some say is hererotrophic calcifications and other say it’s Osseous metaplasia. Not sure if this is the same thing or not. She has white rings where it almost looks like the white is “melting” into the red eye. It started over a year and a half ago and we went to the very experienced exotic vet here and he did not know what it was but said the eye looked healthy as he could see the vessels since there is no pigment with her being red eyed. It has since progressed and her one eye looks a bit cloudy now. The white is in both eyes. They seem to be a bit more bulging if you look closely but it’s not something you would notice just looking at her. She is also a good bit overweight bc she love to eat more than the average Guinea pig (I think eats more than her share of food so we switched to healthier pellets that she will only eat when hungry and it seems to be helping).

I am looking for information regarding what others think this is and if anyone has any idea if it can be treated and how. She is going to the vet a week from today but I want to take information when we go in case he does not know and perhaps the info can point him in the right direction and help him know how others have treated it. I attached a few photo of her but can get better picks specifically of the eyes if needed as it’s both eyes but one seems worse.

Thanks in advance for always being so kind and helpful across the pond 🙂

If there is anything else going on with the eye the vet will obviously need to determine but when the eye turns to bony material, I’m afraid there is no treatment. It isn’t harmful though and as sight isn’t their strongest sense, they manage quite fine with the condition.

Below is a link to the Guinea lynx website with more information.

Thanks for the link. I found more Information on old threads after I posted this which was super helpful. I guess main concern is would be to have her vet check for glaucoma since the owner of the local rescue commented that the seemed bulgy. I read that can be treated. Is there any one med that works best you know of off hand or experience.
