Hi all, it's been a while

Oscar, my neutered male pig in my trio has been continually losing weight for the past couple of months.
He's gone from his prime at about 1000g to 745g in just 3 months, with more drastic weight loss in the last couple of weeks.
We've gone to the vet multiple times but she can't find anything wrong with him outwardly - every morning seems normal and nothing shows up on an x-ray. He's pooping and peeing normally, no blood or anything.
But he's lost so much muscle mass and is extremely bony now. The vet thinks it could be some sort of kidney issue or cancer of some sort but the only way to confirm that is through a blood test which is very expensive and she doesn't think it'll change the outcome.
So he's getting critical care to try and maintain his weight as much as possible but it's looking like end of life care unfortunately 😞
He's still happy and excited for veggies, pellets and hay and eats a fair bit from what I can tell, but obviously something is taking more than he is able to eat.
Any advice is much appreciated ☺️

I’m sorry to hear he has lost so much weight. I would consider having some kind of exploratory tests/scans to see if they can get to the bottom of it. Unexplained weight loss is a difficult thing to handle.

With regards to syringe feeding, you need to aim for 40-60ml in a 24 hour period. I would also start weighing him once daily to see if you need to increase how much you’re giving him, based on his weight (maintaining or losing).

I hope they can find out what’s going on. All the best.

Hi there,
This sounds similar to what I'm experiencing with my pig. Did you get anywhere at the vets?
