I've read lots of books n' stuff that give several ideas to the origin of the word 'guinea pig' mostly it's stuff about where they came from and how much they cost etc. But the other day I was at the vets with Dindy's bumblefoot (Dindy went along with her foot too) and the vet came out with an explanation of the name that I'd never heard before.
There is a word used for Piggies in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia: "cuy", (pronounced: "Kwee" ). This name apparently comes from the Quechua word "quwi".
Try saying kwee repeatedly............. kwee kwee kwee kwee kwee

It is a typical onomatopoeic name.

Any thoughts on this one?

don't know about the name but they do speak fluent french weee, weee, weeee, 'specially when foods on the go! dindy hope your paw is feeling better soon i've had that and it's not too good ,best wishes snowflake.

Thank you Snowflake, my slave is giving me Baytril in the morning before our veggies and tomorrow is the last of a ten day course.

That's really interesting! I'm always fascinated by the origins of words.. Thanks for sharing that info. Really hope Dindy's paw gets better soon.
