Junior Guinea Pig
I'm bathing my boars today and cleaning their grease glands with swarfega and I've found that Edmondo's grease gland has orange stuff on it?
I really have no clue as to what it is and the reason for the frequent mite outbreaks that he gets. :?
I got some ivermectin a few months back from a guinea pig friend in a clear bottle, I trusted them that it is ivermectin but I'm now starting to doubt whether it actually is. I've treated Edmondo and Jasper each week for the past two weeks and they're due their 3rd treatment out of 4 today. I'm just starting to doubt whether that stuff is actuality effective and what I'm doing wrong . I just want what's best for my piggies and at the time the only reason that I bought stuff from 'friends' was because I was trying to save money as we have a very expensive rabbit.
Strangely enough Edmondo's friend Jasper doesn't seem to be effected by the mites which makes it even weirder. Edmondo is inbred and I'm starting to question whether the cause of mites is because of him having a lower immune system and not enough immunity to fight off parasites? He has no fur loss. He'll go a few weeks without any signs of mites then they'll be back again. I just don't understand it.
Today I went to find that he had been licking and biting at a few sections of his fur as they were wet and sticking up.
Can anyone shed any light? I feel awful and like a failed owner.
