My piggies were having floor time today and I noticed one of them had peed a reddish looking puddle which looks orange when I cleaned it up with kitchen roll (photo attached). I've been spotting these orange patches for a few weeks now but this one is particularly bright so I'm now concerned it might be blood.

Is this normal or something I should be monitoring to determine which piggy it is? I've not heard any squeaking when they pee nor any wet bottom on any of them etc...

Thanks in advance!

Hi, is the pee coming out that colour or is it coming out clear and drying that colour? If the latter, it’s just oxidised urine where urine reacts with the air and turns a rusty / burnt orange colour which is perfectly normal. It could also be something they’re eating.

If it’s coming out that colour, I’d be inclined to have piggy vet checked just to make sure but my guess is urine which has oxidised. If a piggy was peeing that much blood, I’d expect them to show more symptoms of their being something medically wrong

I didnt realise it could oxidise to produce such a bright colour. Always learning something new owning piggies! I'll keep an eye on whether the urine comes out that orange colour or if it dries to orange and go from there as there's nothing else behavioural wise to go on at the mo. Thanks for your input
