My vet is closed until Monday, but I’ll be calling them first thing. In the meantime, how concerned should I be? This just started today. Normally her urine is white. Both girls are eating fine and have the same energy level. Any guidance is appreciated. Bug, Betty, and I thank you!

Is it coming out white and then changing colour? Pop then on something white and wait for each of them to have a wee to check. If it’s changing colour that’s ok as it’s oxidising. If it comes out that colour then have they eaten anything different? If you’re worried about them get them seen by a vet. Keep an eye on them. You could weigh them daily for a few days. That’s the first sign something is brewing.

I just noticed it, and I have a white bath mat in there now so I’ll keep an eye tomorrow to see if I can identify it directly from the source! My vet opens at 7am Monday so I’ll call first thing - since it’s not blood red I’m going to try not to panic, but I do have an urgent care near me. Normally, when I do cage cleanup their urine is white, which is why this is so noticeable.

They had broccoli yesterday, which they only get once or twice a week, and a few extra carrots this week because they were good girls and let me trim their nails (my first time lol). It could be a combo of that.

It’s probably the carrot. Glad they were good with their nail trims. Carrot is high in sugar and I’ve heard broccoli and cause bloat so keep them as treats. 👍🏻

Hi

Veg can the urine colour in some guinea pigs - including several green veg; their urine also discolours (oxidises) once in contact with the air.

That picture looks like pee well within the normal range to me?

Thank you! They usually only get a baby carrot 2/3 times a week ☺️

Personally, I would reduce the carrots further. It's like feeding a bar of chocolate to guinea pigs.

You may want to review your diet for the longer term; we always learn new things and try to integrate them into our diet recommendations. Root veg is no longer seen a healthy part of a piggy diet and should only ever be a rather occasional treat. Mine only get about once a month or every two weeks when we have some leftover carrots from out human shopping.
