As some of you may know, my guinea pig duo, turned into a trio due to a surprise pregnancy/birth, and now that the little one is starting to grow, I think it's time to get a new cage.

I kept the two in a 100cm x 52cm cage (not sure of the depth) and that was suitable for 2, but now with 3 it's getting cramped and the baby is often pushed out of the pigloo.

So I have been searching for new cages, ideally 140cm and above and I found this interesting one.

Here is the link: http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/140_cm_cages/179119

It's dimensions are: 141 cm x 100 cm x 86 cm (L x W x H)
So that would be more than enough room due to it being two tiered! It is priced at £119 (rrp £169), so it is a good bargain considering the regular price.
I think it is fab and if my piggies took to it would increase their quality of life as I am starting to think they're getting bored of the same old same old.

My issue is the multi-storey, do guinea pigs take to them? My oldest guinea pig, Marge, is 3 years old and has never lived in a multi-storey and I wouldn't want to waste the money if they're just going to stay on the lower level!

Also, is it good value for money? On most sites the 100 and 120 cm's seem reasonabley priced, but the prices seem to skyrocket when it comes to 140!

There is a single story cage with similar dimensions, and it fits into a frame with wheels, but it's the exact same price, so I think the multi-storey is better value?

I have considered C&C, but it is really impractical as I don't think my mum would want an open top cage and my sister brings her cats round when she comes to stay every few months, so I would not be willing to risk the pigs! And besides, it seems quite hard to find them in the UK for reasonable price!

Any comments and help will be greatly appreciated, I am aiming to get a new cage within the next couple of weeks, once I've been paid.
Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't go for one of these. The required floor space should really be on one level so they can run around and the shape of the cage coupled with the ramp taking up space actually make it a bit cramped. I'd be more inclined to go for a trixie 150 (or rabbit 150, I think the name's changed) which you can get for a similar price. If you wanted to go with a double level one I think a double level 120cm one would be okay but you may find your pigs don't like the ramps. Ramps do tend to need to be covered (with fleece/vetbed or something) and adding sides or putting a tunnel over it can help make it safer and less daunting for pigs. :)

i am personally not a fan of the 2 tiered cages either :)
i just think a bigger cage & an extra pigloo would be fine :)
maybe buy some corner hammocks as a space for them to get away from each other if they chose to?

I think it is 140 x 100 for each singular cage, so in affect, they're getting 2 large cages?

This does the cage more i justice i believe as they're in home environments, these are customer uploaded photos.

I was looking at the rectangle two story cages, some appear to be cheaper at 120cm in length, but would that be adequate for 3 pigs? :{

the rectangle ones seem a lot bigger
i was looking at one of them for my 2 sows but the ramp looked a bit steep for my liking :(
so they are in a bigger cage now with hammocks in 2 corners (which they love)
good luck cage hunting :)

Sorry, what do you mean by hammocks? Like human hammocks, but for guinea pigs? mallethead mallethead

this is better if you don't want a CC cage

with stand

http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=813&pf_id=58417

you can put vet bed on the wire flooring upstairs to protect their feet.

Also this

or this

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/140_cm_cages/95921

these are all the best shop cages I can think of for 3 piggies, better than your choice as more one level floor space.

I'd get a 140 for 100 quid from Pets at home online (other places might be cheaper.

I had a single tier in that shape that was ok for the two but they had permenmant access to a run. Two tier cages are a pain to clean out in my experience and make catching the piggies a pest too.

I must say tho the 140 is MASSIVE and takes a bit of getting used to.

good luck what ever you decide

Thanks everyone for your help! But my mum is like "get one with a solid plastic top so they don't kick out hay and it keeps any draft out" but there are none at all. I saw that pets at home one, but I'll try and get the same one, but cheaper on ebay or something :(|)

Do you mean like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HAGEN-ZOO...lies_Small_Animals&hash=item2a22baa571&_uhb=1 If so, just be careful as I heard once that enclosed plastic cages wasn't suitable for guinea pigs due to ventilation. If you go for this type, make sure it has a big enough wired opening at the top :)
