Hi everyone! I was just wondering what personal opinions people had in regards to what bedding is best for Guineas

I have a rescue abysinthian named Geoff who is about 1 and I successfully paired him with 6month old kiwi Afew months ago!

I currently have them living in a large store bought cage which is more than spacious enough for them and I also use sawdust in the base of the cage however I was thinking of switching to fleece as I've seen many people say their Guineas prefer it.. so I want opinions on what people think is best for them, also if I made the switch to fleece what would be best under neither it to soak up the wee, old towels or something like puppy training mats that are designed to soak it!

Thanks for any feedback!

Hello

Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to our bedding overview Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

When we used fleece we had towels underneath it, fleece should always be washed without softener and needs washing several times to make it wick the wet away through it

Are those your piggies in your avatar? they are beautiful!

I think the 'best' bedding is the one that works for you and your pigs to be honest.
If it keeps them dry and you like it and find it easy to use, then it's a good solution.
I love fleece, but I also know a lot of people find the washing part too much, and they end up going back to disposable bedding.
I used to use Auboise, but our piggies are in an area that the kids walk past a lot, so Auboise was getting kicked out of the cage and dragged all over the house, so for me fleece was a good choice. Plus I sew, so was able to save a small fortune making lots of piddle pads myself. I think the intial set up cost would have been quite high if I didn't make my own piddle pads, but of course this would be off set against the ongoing cost of disposable bedding in the long run.

I agree with Swissgrey. The best way is to try the different options and see what works for you.

i use a combination of bedding .ive 2 hutches in the shed that at present have softchip in litter trays with igloos /bendy logs on top stuffed with hay,use ecobed/cardboard bedding..with puppypads underneath.ive 2 large 6x2 c and c cages in a spare room,i use fleece liners with vet bed on top.hay tray, ive a large 150cm x 77cm cage in lounge,i use puppy pads and cardboard bedding in large base, messane ive used cage/fleece liner, with vet bed on top of liner, sat an igloo ontop of vet bed.hay tray as well.i place lots of hay through out the cage.:agr:with the above comments, its what suits you, your budget and your piggies best.:)

I've got two types of fleece in their cage (C&C cage attached to a run) and both are an all-in-one thing. The best disposable bedding, I think, is paper. It has no smell whatsoever, and needs less maintenance as the bedding gets sort of mixed around? So the poops don't just remain on the surface. Also it's incredibly absorbent...
