I'm trying to find the best bedding for my piggies as cheap as possible. I just had a look on Amazon and one of the first things that came up is care fresh. I looked through the reviews but they were all talking about how their hamsters loved it but there was no mention of Guinea pigs  so if anyone has ever used care fresh if they could tell me if its good or not, how long it lasts, if it's warm (my piggies are outside:( no space indoors) and also, if care fresh is not the best value for money what is? Thank you

Carefresh is absolutely excellent in my opinion, and one of the best bedding I have ever tried for my pets. It is however VERY expensive. It claims on the pack that it's compressed so a little goes a long way, but in all honesty it doesn't go as far as it would have you believe, even though it is indeed compressed. I used to spend a fortune on it until I switched to Fitch. Fitch is paper based (whereas Carefresh is card) and because of this I feared that it would disintegrate when wet, but it does not.
I know I sound like an advert for the stuff, but seriously now I've been using Fitch for around a year now I have no intention of switching to anything else. You get a 20kg bag for around £21 which is far more economical than Carefresh, and it performs pretty much the same. I have saved a lot of money since switching to Fitch, and I also like the fact that it's white on the basis that I have had a piggy with a UTI and it shows up bloody wee rather well. All of my piggies do/did most of their wees in the Fitch so it is actually good for monitoring that part of their health.

The 20kg is by far the most economical but do be warned, it does take up more storage space (a lot more) than several bags of Carefresh does! :)
Oh and Fitch is softer than Carefresh too, so snuggly for your piggies. Paper does hold heat well, it's good insulation :)

I agree entirely with @Critter about Carefresh. I love it too. I also used Fitch for a long time and was very happy with it.

I have now switched to either Aubiose or Easibed though - Aubiose is a little cheaper than Fitch and comes in 20kg bags like Fitch. Easibed is cheaper still (comes in same size). Aubiose and Easibed are hemp based products. They look like little wood chips - Aubiose is smaller pieces and slightly lighter in colour than Easibed. The hemp products draw the moisture down to the bottom of the layer (I lay it about an inch deep). The top stays dry all the time which I feel is good for the piggies.

For me personally, I would be happy to use Fitch again but choose to use Aubiose/Easibed because they are cheaper and I can get them from a local equine supplier one bag at a time. To make Fitch cheaper I have to order several bales at once and then work out where to store them. Just to give you an idea on cost, the equine supplier I use is, I know, not the cheapest and I pay around £11.50 for the Aubiose and £8.70 for the Easibed.

I'm using "Bliss" a horse bedding, but take care not to buy a bedding with citronella or other oils added as is often done to horse bedding products.

I'm personally more of a fleece user, it's a bigger bang for your buck in the long run considering it can be re-used and you can get some pretty nice designs to 'beautify' your cage. Plus it does make spot cleaning a lot easier. Vet Beds are another option to look into.

In general, Care Fresh is an amazing and reputable brand. It's very pricey though. Unless there's a deal or you have some valid coupons on hand, I wouldn't bother with it. I would look into another approved paper-based or card-based bedding through research if that's what you want to have.

With any pet, you should try to save your money so you have your own pocket cash but don't cheap out and buy the most inexpensive brand of bedding you see. Really look into what you use and some of the users above listed some bedding to check out. Always look into it though, you never know these days how quality-made something was with how companies want to make a profit and not healthier pets.

I agree carefresh bedding is the best ! it does not make there wee / poo smell its nice to there feet ! and it keeps there cage clean and fresh for animal's

I love Carefresh! I use it for my APH's litter tray and it does mask smells really well (anyone who owns hedgies knows how stinky they can be). However, I don't used it for my rabbits or piggie as it's quite expensive and I also tend to find it clumps and doesn't spread evenly so would only use it for litter trays and not an all over bedding. A fact that I heard about Carefresh is that the natural carefresh masks odors more compared to the coloured ones, not exactly sure why think it's due to the ingredients used to colour them. But I still use the rainbow one

I use megazorb. I know a few people aren't keen on it. It is recommended for horses with respiratory problems and a lot of bunny people use it hence why I use do. My bun and boar have chronic snuffles and I don't find it dusty at all. In fact I find it has helped them an awful lot so I would highly recommend it for animals with respiratory problems. A few people mention the smell. But honestly I think it smells lovely. You can only smell it when you move it if that. It doesn't make my room smell at all and masks odours really well and is super absorbent. I get a 80l bag for £12 including delivery and it lasts me well over a month with my 4 rabbits and gpig.

hi I usefore i found what was me fleece inside my indoor cages, back to nature in litter trays paper pellets,in my six feet hutches,i use hemp bedding aubiose.I find it absorbs urine the best, basic bliss is good, but i do not find it is as absorbant.you can get these from norse feed places.be careful of using fleece in outdoor hutches in winter,it gets damp at night when cold.but i do use vetbed in winter, its very warm, use hay on top.I tried several beddings to find what is most suitable for my budget, lifestyle, and piggies.its a personal choice.
