I’m a super new owner to 2 piggies. I’ve lined their ‘bedroom’ with Lino, then used dust extracted wood shavings then hay on top of that. I’m poop picking each day and removing wet bedding, although finding the majority of it wet each day, so practically fully cleaning them out daily. Yet seen people saying they normally do a full clean once or twice a week?
Also, we have a 2 tiered hutch, although the piggies haven’t grasped the ramp yet. I want to line the bottom of the hutch with Lino too but hubby reckons that if we don’t cover the entire bottom layer of Lino with something ie wood shavings/hay, they may chew the Lino which worries me as it could be dangerous to them. Any suggestions/advice kindly received. Thank you.

When I had a hutch it was lined with lino which I covered with newspaper then wood shavings, it makes it easier to clean out as you can just wrap the shavings in the paper and remove. Many guinea pigs don't like the steep ramps in hutches and definitely prefer them if they have sides rather than being open. There's some useful threads on hutches and ramps in this thread. I was a little worried about using newspaper and had read the ink could be toxic?

I am sure I have read on the forum somewhere that all print has to be safe these days. I know 30 or so years ago when we had hamsters you couldn't use newspaper because it was toxic but as far as I know it's not now. Hopefully someone else will be along soon to confirm this!

Hope so as I put it around my cage as they have chewed the tablecloth type plastic that lines my cage before... 🙄
