So I keep a very close eye on the weather in Staffordshire as I house all my piggies outdoors all year, and whilst i appreciate some may not agree with this housing, so just to show how much I care...and having checked again the forecast - Operation Piggy Overlord came into force.

The temperature is going to drop below what my one hutch can cope with so my herd of 4 came in doors for a few days, so I'm out there slipping and sliding, without the cage bases because they are in the garage and it's not possible to reach them currently, improvised plastic cover base, kitchen roll and fleece bottom, the cherubs in are doors.

My other hutch temperature is much better so I'm not so concerned but they will get the extra heat pads whilst my indoors will be enjoying the floor heat pad which I'll pop in shortly too.

My big girl Tilly in the front scoffing lovely rocket.
Mowgli showing his white shoulders, Ellie on top of house and Evie hiding as always.

I keep mine outside too @Mother Hubbard. As you know mine have loads of stuff to keep them warm. I have checked the temperature on the weather app on my phone for the next few nights a few times and it isn't supposed to get much below freezing here so they will be fine outside with all the lovely warm stuff in the hutch. Not everyone approves of keeping piggies outside in the winter I know that and it gets some members hot under the collar. As long as I know that I have done my utmost to keep the fluffy potatoes warm I am content with that. There is no right or wrong way.

Thanks Betsy, I know what you mean, the lengths we go to, including making up new boxes stuffed with loveliness.

The main herd are now completely crashed out in their new den and Tilly is enjoying the very nice fleece flooring, looks like I'll be out buying new fleece if I get a chance with the snow.

Mine are all snuggly in the garage. It's much warmer in there than the garden and I have thrown a couple of fleeces over the hutch (including one to be a curtain over the front just for night times). To be honest I think mine could cope as but I was a bit more worried with willow being an old lady and Donald having recently had an operation. That said the fleece cosies are out in force and very much being enjoyed by every pig

I've got one of those dog heated beds, it has an armoured cable running from the pad itself, so I'm using that also, it's small enough to go through the grids to be honest and works well. I suspect you could use one of those in your hutch and plug into the garage - works a treat and you can leave on all day too. It's a larger heated area than that of the snuggle safes too.
