We have 2 new female 10 week old Guinea Pigs. One of them seemed to have a fungal infection on her head between her eyes. Very localised. We took her to the vet. Who said this could be what it is (as opposed to an injury) and suggested some canesten cream twice a day. The problem is that we can't stop her scratching so the wound is quite bloody and isn't healing. Not sure how we can help it to dry out and have chance to heal. Has anyone else been in this viscious circle? Is there some kind of anti-septic powder for things like this? Any other wisdom?

I would speak to your vet first about it. They might be able to prescribe something to help.

I was in a similar situation year ago with a guinea pig who had mites. I had the Ivermectin treatment from the vet but he was going crazy scratching and biting himself. The vet didn't know what to do.

As a last option I contacted Gorgeous Guineas as they create shampoos and creams for pigs. We decided to try the Aloe Vera gel on him and it worked. It really calmed his skin down.

A more experienced guinea pig vet probably would have been able to give us something to help him, but at the time there were no experienced vets in my area.

See what your vet suggests.

This is so helpful. Thank you. The idea of aloe vera came into my head this morning as a soother and cooler but I wasn't sure. This gave me confidence. We'll see how it goes and return to the vets if needed.

before you try anything, go to your vet. the vet will know best, not the internet. I made a mistake of using the internet and one of my hamsters before, got even more sick.:mal::nod:
