A friend asked why Guineas cannot eat onions and i didn't know the answer. Do they give upset tummies or is it more serious ?

All members of the Allium family- onions, chives, garlic- are toxic to most pets. They contain disulphide compounds which at least irritate the gut and cause inflammation, but at higher levels can also damage red blood cells and damage the liver. Definitely one to avoid- a small amount fed by accident may just cause tummy ache and dodgy poops but could also cause bloat, or if fed in large amounts or regularly could well cause the more serious irreversible damage.
