Hi all. Percy had a swollen testicle a bit ago and was booked in for a castration as the vet seemed to think this would be the best idea. In the lead up to the op the swelling vanished and he didn’t go ahead with it as the vet said that it couldn’t have been a tumour. HOWEVER…. The same testicle is swollen again! What on earth could be going on? I am going to take him back to the vets- I may as well take up residency there 🤣🤣. Can anyone advise? Thanks so much!

Hi

Please have him seen by your vet. I would hazard a guess that it could be either a hernia or an abscess which has burst but now refilled.

Neutering operations: Considerations, post-op care and complications and a successful recovery example (see chapter on complications - both issues can happen in full boars, too; but more rarely)

My Larry had this, turns out it was an inguinal hernia and his testicle used to disappear sometimes, only to reappear at twice the size! 😮

Would a hernia fluctuate in size? X
Yes, it can and it can also move around a bit; material pushes through a tiny hole in the muscle wall but can retract as well. Problems arise if a piece of gut slips through, gets trapped and swells up instantly, so it cannot retract again.

For a diagnosis please see your vet.

No, he was actually booked in to have surgery with Simon and Kim at Cat and Rabbit in Northampton but then it disappeared!
Kim was wary of operating because he was diabetic x
