I am really upset right now. My little girl Sophie is being so distant. Whenever I have her on my bed which is next to my bed she is staring at the cage...and doesn't want anything to do with nibbles...me...or anything. A example of how serious this is: I was sitting at my computer desk and she was on my shoulder. She jumped from my shoulder... To my bed and then almost jumped into the cage that was open.

I have tried everything to get through to her. From getting her out of her cage and out and about in the house and outside. To laying next to her on my bed and making sure she can't see the cage and play with her. She rejects my advances of playing and only wants her cage nothing more or less.

Any ideas friends?20140922_210824.webp

Guinea pigs are prey animals. It take quiet a while to tame them. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. My piggie Honey is a very home loving pig and maybe Sophie is too? She'll come around :)

Take her out together with her friend and be patient and persist. In some cases it can take months instead of just weeks to get through, but it will be a very special moment when it finally happens, as it makes you appreciate how precious the trust of a prey animal is!

Give her lots of praise and a little herb or veg treat. Piggy love goes through the tummy...

Naw, don't worry! I'm sure she'll come round eventually :)
Perhaps she doesn't yet feel safe out of her cage. If that's the case, it's natural for her to want to be in there all the time! Persist with interacting with her - playing, cuddling, hand feeding, and eventually she'll learn that you are her protector, not predator and might settle :3
Keep an eye on her though, and if you are worried check with your vet - she might be withdrawn for another, more medical based issue :3 Good luck!

Aww don't worry :) she'll come around, I have gotten use to getting the butt from piggies. I only get their love when it involves food. Plenty of treats and praise she'll come around. She's gorgeous by the way.

try watching tv, or having music playing while she is out. that calms them down i find. they like the colour blue on the tv, and foliage type things.

piggies are great at making humans deal with rejection... Mine are masters of leading me on haha but we have a special bind and food is the way to their hearts

Patience, kindness and bribery usually pay off. However one of mine still rejects all advances by me and she's been with us for over 4 years! The others are, however much more friendly and enjoy a good snuggle (on their terms not mine). Stick with it.

I've found that when she is in the room with her cage she only wants in there. When I take her out of the room she changes very quickly and becomes more friendly. Very odd lol.
