Hi,

Does anyone have senior guineapig? Did your guineapig's eye change as they get old?

my guineapig's eye looked little bigger than the other eye and the eye was little red as well. I took him to emergency vet immediately and the doctor said she didn't see any health issues but I can come back another time for more through check... I'm just worried if he is really fine...

Just bumping this up to the top of list for you. I'm not sure on this. My sows eyes changed as she got older, they bulged a little tiny bit, but I got her checked and nothing was wrong. But in one eye I'd be a bit concerned incse your vet has missed something, I know teeth issues can make eyes look different sometimes, being so close to the eyes in Guinea pigs.

Perhaps if you could post a photo we could help. But if you are worried then perhaps take piggy back. What did they check for when you took piggy to the vet?

After

I just made an appointment with the same doctor this week.

I told them one eye looks bigger and bulgy than the other one and I can see redness. So, I heard them they were going to check for eye infection. And, they didn't find any from the appearance.

That doesn’t look normal. They need to check and see if there’s something behind the eye that’s pushing it outwards. Are they experienced in guinea pig care and treatment? Whereabouts are you located?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I'm in Califonia, Los Angeles.

It's overwhelming because there isn't a lot of exotic pet vets around here .. and I think the doctor is specialized in exotic pets? It's a big hospital that sees all kinds of animals.

Thank you so much! I'm considering canceling my appointment right now..

I'm speaking with this new place rn.

:clap:Update for people who gave advice:

Tofu saw the vet today :) (yay) The vet is suspecting abscess behind his eye. He will start his antibiotics tomorrow. If he doesn't get better within two weeks he will get his CT scan. I hope I can bring great updates in one or two weeks. Thank you, everyone.

Glad to hear something has been done. Good luck to your Tofu ☺️

Well done for following your instincts and not putting up with the initial advice. Your little guy is a cutie - hope treatment goes well.
