Hi,

My pigs Elphie and Glinda were potty trained and always used to go in the one spot (left corner of downstairs) and occasionally the top corner of upstairs, however over the past month or two they have started to go everywhere. They will go all over their blankets at night, in every corner of the hutch and, especially when they are on the floor, will push the 'poop tray' from where it is to go where they were. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced their pigs doing this and what should I do, I didn't train them originally (they sorta just decided the spot themselves but were consistent) so should I train them now?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

To be honest, you were lucky they only did it in one area. We have ne ear had a toilet training end piggy. They just poo... They will poo more were they eat however so hay trays often get more poo in.

I don't believe it is possible to toilet train piggies especiLly ours lol

I'm thinking it may be because I went and bought them a little tray to do their business in which they do use but I'm feeling like they are rebelling a little against it

Where they were originally pooing was right next to their hay so that made sense but now I have no idea why they are doing what they are doing, it gets frustrating cause you just want them to understand they are going to have their blanket taken away if they wee on it! Thanks anyway :)

I'm afraid that in all my years of keeping piggies only 1 has had any degree of decency in using a designated toilet space. And that was because she was rescued from a tiny hutch where she'd kept herself as clean as poss by weeing and pooing in one tiny corner. All the others reward my hard work by weeing and pooing with total lack of regard for the poor slave who has to keep them clean and tidy.

Did you try putting some pee stained bedding into the tray so they can "smell" thats were to pee? Chuck some poops in too.

That's sad about your 1, but its good that she is in a better home now. I think one thing all pig owners have in common is the eternal cleaning!

I've heard more stories of potty trained piggies when ppl keep single pigs, my pairs have always happily pooed trails wherever they go

It seems to be one of their happy moment (pooping). I joke around saying that one of mine needs to go to poopaholics anonymous - she constantly is either pooping, eating poop or sniffing around other peoples butts for more poop
