Have just had the vet call me back after I called the emergency line with 6yr old Lola who handles suspected bloat. He was hesitant to do anything for her, and I really had to push to ask that we at least try some gut stimulating meds, even if she refuses to eat it! Hoping I've done the right thing - I don't wish to dress her, but in an otherwise healthy girl I'd hate to ignore her symptoms!

Fingers firmly crossed!

Just handed her over at the door to vet, and have a bad feeling he'll give her steroids or something bad. :-/ Just waiting in the car now.

Vet said she has slight diverted colon, but seems not too bad, active - although I explained it was likely fear induced activity due to being handled by someone new. He said to keep massaging her, and try to get some science selective recovery feed into her over the next 24 hours.
Should they not have given some kind of medicine?

So they didn't give any gut motility drugs? Were you given any to give at home? Have you got any Metacam or Loxicom?

I was only give the science selective recovery stuff :-( I have just tried to give metacam, (left over from a previous vet visit), and she's refusing it. Have tried water via syringe, and she's refusing it. She's also refusing her pellets which she usually goes mad for, and her natural science urinary support biscuits that she loves too. She's a real hay queen, but has had nothing other than a small piece of cucumber as far as we can tell since about midday when she had some readigrass and seemed normal. Now, she's withdrawn, refusing food or liquid, and had a swollen tummy.
How many hours can a GP go without eating before they become critical? How often through the night should I be trying to get small amounts of anything into her?

You need to be firm and get the medication in. I am disappointed that the vet didn't give her some gut motility drugs. These could've been given by injection, with oral meds to continue at home. It's a shame that she perked up whilst at vets, as they clearly didn't see how poorly she is. I really hope you can get some syringe food into her.

Ok, thank you. Will get some help and try to get more of the recovery stuff and metacam into her.

Thanks for everyone's best wishes for Lola- she has thankfully pulled through ❤️ I got around 2 MLS of recovery food into her and a small amount of Metacam (she was very annoyed and reluctant to have it) and gave her massage again at midnight, then at 4am she actually ate 6 pellets from me, I got Metacam into her, and after another vigorous massage and help from the electric toothbrush, she actually appeared less swollen. Then later this morning she appears a lot better feeling. I will give a small amount of Metacam again today if she appears swollen still, off her food or uncomfortable again, but I'm really hoping that she's in recovery now. I'm going to do a heap of reading on bloat today, to do my best to prevent it happening again - it was such a worrying night. She's actually everyone's favourite (although we love the others deeply too!), and she's most closely bonded to my 15yr old neurodiverse teen, so it will no doubt be a very upsetting time when she does one day leave us. I'm so glad she got theough the night - thank you so much for everyone's help! 🙏❤️
