I've had my 2 'male' piggies for a week and this is the first night i've handled them and put them in a run in the front room. They're loving it and have been running and squeeking away but the normally shy one Wilbur has been climbing on top of Otis from all directions and seemingly humping away.

Is this a normal behaviour between 2 young males like a dominance thing or could my little Otis in fact be a girl? I just trusted the pet shop man that they were both boys but how can i tell for sure?

Any help would be fab please fellow piggie people!

Thanks

Please do not worry this is normal. They are trying to establish whose boss. They will soon settle when somebody gives in.

It is most likely, totally normal boar dominance behaviour, however if you have suspicions that they look different down below This link may help

If it doesnt, your most welcome to post pictures of your boars bits (preferably up nice and close, and well lit) So we can sex them for you :)

My boys have been doing that again this week, so there must be something in the air! rolleyes
It usually settles down again after a few days.

It's very likely that you have a perfectly normal pair of boys and they are just humping away just because they can - boys! LOL

However it wouldn't be the first time that a petshop has mis-sexed a pair of piggies. If you can take a look at this sexing link it should help set your mind at ease. If you are at all unsure of the sexes please take a close up shot of each (as well lit and in focus as you can) and we will help.

Thanks for all your replies - feel much better already that this is normal. I've just read the link - really useful thankyou. I'll try to have a proper look at Otis when I put him to bed later and check he is a boy - today is the first day I've picked him up at all though and don't want to traumatise him too much... if he is a girl its probably too late anyway as he's been humped left right and centre already tonight! :))

Aha, don't worry about it, my boys love to hump each other ... always when we have guests too !

"you have such gorgeous pigg... ooh .."

Yep boys have no shame ..
