So my piggies are terrified at the sound of a hoover, a bell, me sneezing, me coughing, me moving my chair sometimes, my hand, a toy pony, a stuffed giraffe... I could go on, but you get the idea.

What they DON'T seem to be scared of is... a (corn) snake! I had one of my snakes out (note- the tamest, oldest and dippiest snake ever hatched, not only would he never be able to swallow a piggie in a million years, he barely even strikes at his lunch, and I had a good hold. Just wanted to clear that up! lol) and they both came to the bars, as if I had brought them some choice treat.

I sat them down and, with the help of a snake, explained to them the difference between harmless objects (e.g. cardboard tubes) and predators (e.g. snakes). I think we all learned something.

Oh piggies, you so silly!

Erm, having witnessed a corn snake strike I still don't like the fact you had a snake by the piggies. At least they know what to run from in future, I must say I could demonstrate to the piggies what they should do when they see a snake in future, I wouldn't trust a snake ever because of there natural instinct, I'm also not a snake fan.

I'm guessing you may have more than one?

If I brought him back they would no doubt come to the bars again. He is the only snake I would do it with, he is so old he barely goes for mice, and he is the only snake I've ever owned who has never bit me (in 20 years).

That said, I was still cautious, he never got within 6 inch of the piggies and was held firm, so zero chance of a strike (and I think the piggies would overpower him even if he ran amock :) )

But I respect your caution.

We had a corn snake many years ago was my brothers, I've never been a snake fan probably because he tormented me with it.

I mind one day he put it in my bed when I was sleeping and I wonder why I don't like snakes - I have a mature brother.

How long do they live for?

I was told 15 years... 19 years ago. Now I believe 20, which certainly fits with the deterioation of the eldest snakes.

My pigs were the same when i first got them scared of everything except the cat! who would never ever hurt one but he used to lay next to the cage and theyd be all up and happily squeaking at the bars at him! silly piggies x
