Hi, hope everyone is ok? I have a query, this morning Bramble’s penis was completely hidden inside, I pressed above it as you do when cleaning & it reappeared. Is this normal? I’ve never seen it before but I was doing the weekly check! Then since then I’ve noticed that he is obsessively eating his own poops! He is forever turning round to gobble them up? He has plenty of fresh hay available. Thanks x

I wouldn’t worry 🙂 It’s quite normal for boars to keep their penis’s hidden and poo eating is normal too x
Thanks Claire! It just doesn’t seem like when he usually eats it? He was in the carry case while being cleaning out & he ate the whole lot! That would usually be 10-14? Just seemed a bit manic while doing it? x

I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about. I once had my girls out and there were lots of poos one minute and they were all gone the next. Perhaps he has a mild tummy upset which is why he’s eating all his poos but I really wouldn’t worry x

Thanks so much, he does seem a tiny bit off today, will make sure he has some fibreplex just in case! Thanks so much for your help x

The only time I’ve witnessed my piggies do this is when they are recovering from an illness. Keep a close eye on him and check his weight daily. I hope it’s nothing serious. 🤞🏻

Sorry for the bad advise 😞 I have generally seen my piggies eat lots of their poos and they haven’t been unwell but yes, it’s probably a good idea to do as advised and check his weight daily to make sure he’s eating enough hay and is ok x

He never stopped eating yesterday after being cleaned out! Just done his weight & he is a couple of grams heavier than yesterday so that’s good! Thanks for the advice, will be watching him like a hawk! x

His weight has been stable but his poops are slightly softer, which isn't unusual for him. I have noticed that he is extra hungry? Plus this morning while I was replenishing their hay I noticed that he was making a strange sound while eating. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I have got him an appointment for tomorrow at 4:30. https://youtube.com/shorts/-EKtg8gEQNk?si=vHJowQa-fVkYyYuc

Sorry you might have to turn the volume up loud to hear? Appreciate any feedback x

I heard wheezing sounds, but maybe that was hay being moved around? Otherwise respiratory problems?
I also heard something that sounded like 'tsuk, tsuk' or maybe 'dut, dut, dut' which is probably what you meant. During some of that, he seemed to be biting specially hard on his hay?

Sorry, the more I listened the more confused my ear-brain connection got, not to mention distinguishing background and guinea sounds.

Hope the vet can help!

Hi Mrs Tiggy Winkle, yes it was the tsuk tsuk / dut dut noise. He’s never made this noise previously? Was worried in case this is the hoot that people mention? Thanks, I wish it was today we were going but this was the soonest I could get him in x

That’s what I thought. Think I was after peace of mind that it wasn’t that, stupid I know? Scared that he’s caught it off us as we’ve all had the same cold / bug that everyone has had but I wore a mask & was washing my hands like a mad woman! I’ve been on to the vets & they can’t see him any sooner so tomorrow it is! He’s actually more active than usual today! Thanks x

Do have a vet check him. It’s never worth leaving something that worries you.

Piggies don’t catch viral colds from us.
Piggies get bacterial respiratory infections.

Let us know how you get on

Oh I would never leave him without being checked over! I guess I was after something that will help me sleep tonight?
I will do, he’s currently climbing the bars wanting his veggies!

Thanks, I feel a little better about the viral / bacterial thing! x

They couldn’t hear any respiratory noises though he is running a little bit of a temperature & breathing faster than they’d like, so they’ve prescribed co-trixoxazole & metacam for a week to nip anything in the bud that might be brewing? Teeth, heart, guts ok & no signs of discomfort in his rear. Fingers crossed this will sort him out? Thanks again everyone x
