This is the vet bed Ive bought and am waiting to be delievered, I'm super excited and completed anxious about the transition. Ive read so much about it off the forum, I'm workign night shifts and I have literally surfed around for hours reading hundreds of peoples reviews and personal experiences and I'm a bit anxious about it all.

Do I leave a bit without vet bed for the hay? Do I get a small tray to put hay in or to put under the hay rack to catch stray hay? How do I spot clean their lower level as it only has a small slidey door, I may end up having to remove the top floor 1-2 times a day. However I have a great Black and Decker han held hoover which will make it easier I hope! Do I just put Newspaper underneath? And how may layers?

ZOMG! I'm having a vetbed freak out here, Although I cannot wait to say buh bye to sawdust and carefree, I freakin' despise the stuff and I'm sure it bothers my Asthma (mum says its the pigs, I laughed and told her shes crazy)

Sorry for long text, my brain is pig obsessed at the moment I'm even havign dreams about them and I woke up Eddie (OH) the other night shouting out/sing guinea pig songs?!

Hehehe... I got the pig fever

Feel free not to answer my questions fully, id love to hear how other people found the transition from sawdust to vetbed, I didnt go for fleece first as it seemed more fussy with the towel/inco pads and newspaper, just seemed like more to wash whereas vetbed is one piece, shake it out and wash it, we live by a field so the sahking off will be a piece of cake :D

I must appologise perfusely for my spelling mistakes, its 05:00 and ive been working since 20:00 last night, night shifts turn my brain into soggy pig nuggets...

That's okay hehe *hugs* I'm sure it'll be fine :)
I'm using a fleece blanket at the monent as the VetBed hasn't come yet. it seems really easy to clean. At the monent he hasa hey cookie, and a small pile of hay, it does spread alot, but I just fold it up and shake it of in a bag or outside :)
I put newspaper, a small layer of shavings, then more newpaper, But when I get the vet bed I'll just use a bit of newspaper, and maybe a peice of towel underneath.

I hope this helped somewhat lol :)

Hay is a pain on the vet bed so iv bought cheap cat litter trays to put it in. Can't say it all stays in there but what does get out is easy to Hoover up. =) lol you sound me I'm constantly thinking what else i can get for them etc. You won't need more than 1 layer of newspaper. Well thats what i found even when my 4 were living together.

the poos get lost in the long fibres lol spose it looks cleaner for longer,i used towel's underneath it will still need cleaning everytwo days also after you've washed it you need to brush it else it looks clumpy,

I'd like to try vetbed, but am just using towels, fleece and puppy pads at the moment. I definitely recommend a cat litter tray which I stuff full of hay, and a very thin layer of shavings underneath, as they use this as their toilet. I would use newspaper or more puppy pads or something but one of my piggies does anything to eat these rolleyes. I'd never go back to a full cage of woodshavings now after using fleece!

Heyoo Clarie, I just wanted to say a thank you for this thread, I was considering putting the boys on fleece, as it's much cheaper than vet bed...but your link has made me purchase four of the 76 x 50 green paw print ones what great prices really wanted to buy the pink paw prints but i dont think the boys will be too happy, i cant wait for the order to be delivered hehe cant wait to see pigtures of your piggles enjoying their new bedding :))

Yet another day passes and no vetbed to be seen yet, I have a week off starting wednesday so I do hope it comes during that time when I have the time to focus on doing it properly and establishing a routine. Its going to be awkward keeping up with cleaning it whilst working night shifts, My darling piggies get a bit neglected during my shifts but they get treated like crazy when I have free time :D

So excited now I keep drawing plans and ideas for the cage when the vet bed comes, thinkign of adding a mezanine floor to the top storey for them there is a lot of wasted space in the cage

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

I use vet bed with puppy pads underneath and an underbed storeage box, with megazorb at the bottom, filled with hay. I think it's fantastic! There is very little smell, the vetbed is easy to clean up poops and stray hay using a dustpan and brush (get one for outdoor use that has really stiff bristles as it will get the hay of the vetbed much easier) and the guineas love lounging around on it. They look sooooo comfy!

I got my VetBed on Thursday, and put it in Friday.
So far so good :) Parsleys realy seems to like it, as it's only him I just empty the cage and shake the poos off in the garden. I'm just using newspaper underneath it at the monent, seems to be fine :)

I have a little guinea with a small and embarrassing bladder 'issue' and she can get dirty despite daily cleaning so I thought replacing hay bedding (thay have newspaper and flax under) would do the trick.

I have four at the moment all living free range in a large, heated, shed so vetbed for the entire shed is out of the question but I decided to invest in some vetbed for their sleeping places. I spent ages cutting it to size to fit into all the igloos and hidey places so that they could all be snug and then play and burrow in the hay outside of the hideys.

Anyway, having spent ages doing this I proudly set it all up, very pleased with myself and piggie daydreaming about them all being snug. I kept checking on them hourly over a 12 hour period when working from home one day, do you think the little blighters would go near it....no, they made little nests in the hay instead and refused to use the vetbed! How spoilt is that!

They now do use it (I point blank refused to go back to hay in their hideys) but do so begrudgingly. Are mine just odd!?! mallethead
