Wheekallweek
Adult Guinea Pig
Sorry guys, it's a long one!
So at Merrypigs, like all of you sanctuary and rescue guys out there I'm sure, we have some permanent piggies for various reasons.
Well, now we're down to two after losing Toffee on Wednesday (RIP precious lil girly ❤) so I figured it's time to spam you guys with pictures of them lol.
So meet Eric the Aby and Ruby!
Eric was at risk of PTS as he was just completely traumatised after being kept in a tiny cage with another boar. They were constantly fighting and his owner refused to take him to a vet and wanted rid of him as he was the "aggressor", so she brought him in to where I work. He was absolutely covered in horrendous wounds, some of which were down to the muscle. After extensive recovery, he then showed up with sarcoptic mange which caused him to open up his wounds again. He then had a reaction to the Xeno causing the hair on his neck to fall out. He didn't react to us at all and just sat in the corner constantly. He wouldn't play with toys or eat treats. I convinced my colleagues to let me take him home to see if I could bring him round before PTS was considered, and come round he did! Still very wary of being touched on his body, he's a happy little thing who loves floor time and treats!
Bootylicious!
Ruby is an older lady now at around 5.5 years old. She was brought in to my sister's work with her sister Sky. Their owners no longer wanted them. Sky had lots of lumps and bumps, a bad case of lice, protruding eyes and hair loss. Ruby however was ok! Because Sky was so poorly they couldn't go into the adoption centre to find a new home, either they came home to us together or Sky would have been PTS and Ruby rehomed on her own.
So home they came! Sky passed away peacefully at home last year after enjoying the rest of days being spoilt rotten with her sister.
Ruby is doing well and is known for her droopy eyes, big ears and saggy chin!
Chooken!
