Hi,

I'm new to the lovely world of GP's. :o)

Does anyone understand the following:

I was told to put LOTS of hay in the bedroom compartment of the baby piggies hutch (both females). When it was pouring with rain last week I put LOADS in - about 3/4 high of the total height of that compartment, hoping they would snuggle in there. I used absolutely tons of hay, worrying they would be cold as they live outside. In the morning I discovered they had trampolled the entire lot down into inches and inches of compacted flat hay. :{

I've also put loads into a little 'nest' thing for them to hide in, and again, they trampolled the lot.

All advice gratefully received from you experts.

Many thanks
Mrs T

Well I'm not an except I'm relatively novice too, but Toby does this all the time he always flattens it down somehow lol I think it may be unavoidable lol

yep they often do trample it down, but they may have buried under it to begin with. Don't worry too much about it, as long as the hutch has blankets/rugs over it and something like a hutch cover or tarpaulin to keep it dry.

Minty and Dave (in different cages, and indoors) tend to sleep in the hay. In the mornings, you will find they have flattened the hay and there is a little guinea pig shaped dent where they have been lying. I think if guineas are cold, they will find something to snuggle under, but their coats provide quite a lot of insulation so will lie on something warming and dry and control their temperature that way...

Awwwww that is such a cute image!

Mrs. Teapot, I should imagine that your pigs were pleased as punch with all that lovely hay to play in and eat. I put tons in for my outside boys and they always flatten it down!
