Hey y’all. On March 9th I noticed my 2 year old piggy Millie had a bloated stomach and a liquid sound coming from her. I feared for the worst since my last piggy passed away with these symptoms. Well she was eating veggies and drinking water no hay or pellets tho. Had diarrhea. On Monday the vet gave her metronidazole and said to start feeding critical care no veggies. Well I started doing that and her poops were normal again just smaller. Still won’t eat hay or pellets. Woke up Wednesday and she had the liquid sound again and a bloated stomach. Acted the exact same tho and passing stools fine. Took her to vet again and did x rays which showed she was gassy but nothing else of interest. Was told to give simethicone drops For babies to help with gas. She’s still bloated and not eating hay. Idk if this is just prolonging something I shouldn’t or if gassy issues take a while. Vet said it may be dental issues if she’s not eating hay.

Dealing with bloat can take time and is a bit of a roller coaster.

We do not recommend simethicone. It gathers gas into a large bubble which makes it even more painful for piggies.

Are you weighing her daily each morning? This is essential to ensure you are getting enough critical care into her. You are aiming for a minimum of 60ml per 24 hours.

Is she on any painkillers?
Bloat is incredibly painful. Pain will stop them from eating hay but as bloat can be secondary to another health issue, then it could also be the other health issue causing her not to eat.
Generally until you have dealt with the cause, she won’t eat for herself.
