Not sure how to interpret this behaviour?

I have just put my neutered boar(Pat) and spayed sow (Ruby) together after living in the same room for two months and having a divided cage for about two weeks.

They showed no normal dominance behaviours such as sniffing, rumbling or tooth chattering. But Ruby has done this to Pat. I’m not quite sure what to interpret it as since she has also groomed the side of his neck twice? I think he’s about as confused as me.

Just wanted to add, Pat looks a bit strange as he has just had a lower body bath as he was a little dirty and has ongoing mites.

Give them time. Acceptance has not yet happened.

Thanks for the replies! I’ve only ever done completely smooth and calm introductions before, so this is a new experience for me.

She had a go at him twice, then went after him and started a bit of a bicker that ended with the beginnings of a fight, I didn’t intervene as they went for each other and I think fur got bitten but nothing more, they then went to different areas of the enclosure.

Now sat calmly munching hay!

I suspect that Pat is maybe feeling a little under the weather and I don’t think that will be helping matters. I’m keeping a close eye on him as I can’t tell whether it’s the cold, the stress of living beside a new pig (and trying to chew through to her) or if there’s an issue brewing.

Just wanted to say, as always, thanks for the support on here. Something suddenly clicked overnight and now they are getting along fairly well!
