Could she be weeing? If so and she is making that noise she needs to see a vet.

If you think it is when she is weeing, one way to tell is, having her own on a white towel feeding her watery veggies and waiting for her to wee, when she does, if she makes that noise, it could be that she has a UTI which can be treated with AB's, also with the white towel you'll be able to see if the wee is pink which would indicate blood in the wee.

If all of the above is the case and you take her to the vets, take a wee sample with yo for testing.

Thanks, will keep an eye on her. Problem is they are new and very scared of us, they won't even take treats from our hands, and certainly not when they're out of the cage!

Its funny you say that, giving them treats out of the cage is one of the best bonding processes, get them out together on the sofa on a towel with some food treats infront of them, talk to them quietly and other than letting them fall off the sofa, leave them to their own devices, they will soon learn its safe and take food from you.

Food is the only way to a guinea pigs heart. xx

Thanks for that tip too! we've been struggling as when they're out on our laps they sit veeery still for a long time then try to make a break for it down the back of the cushions lol.

after experiencing it again, its not a squeaking, its actually like the curious noise from that website, but constant. more of a rumbling noise.

He he, usually when they get fidgety it means they need the loo, as soon as mine start getting like that or nibbly i know its time to put them back, and sure enough as soon as they are back in the cage, they go to a spot, squat, squinte eyes, very still for a few seconds then they start running around lol.

You will get there, it just takes time and patience, often they will be better when they are out together as they have each other for comfort.

Just talk quietly to them, when they get used to your voice and smell and the noises of the house and their surroundings they will get much more confident. But feeding them when they are out, they will soon associate being out with getting treats and food :))

Is their cage on the floor? I found a huge difference in my piggies when i raised their cage, they obviously didn't feel so vulnerable and were much more confident.

It could just be a contented noise then, could you record it or better video her when doing it?

xx

Ah, is she swaying from side to side and purring and vibrating?

xx

Emma's nodding! I haven't really seen it so I'm going on her description! Every time I get up to look at whats making the noise they run inside their hidey hole hah

Rumblestrutting by females is associated with being in season - approx every 17 days. It is also a male dominance/mating behaviour so please do double check that your pigs are the same sex.

This site has pics of males ad females of all ages, hopefully it will help. If you are at all unsure or would like a second opinion please post pics of their bits (well lit and close up) and we can help.

I sometimes hear this noise from my guinea pig. But it's mainly when he is not happy e.g. when I hold him a tiny bit too hard!

ooops, sorry you have taken it away now!

when I first had my girls I realised they didnt like some of my clothes so I kept a fleece baby blanket just for them and when I got one of them out I held them in the blanket it must have smelt safer as they tamed really quickly...
