I noticed my Humphrey wasn’t weeing as much and looked like he was in some sort of pain. At one point he started jerking his body (kind of like he was trying to cough but without a cough). So I took him to the vets where I noticed his belly was rather large. They did an X-ray to check for stones and to see if they could see any problems and couldn’t see anything. Although she did say he has a rather large stomach. They gave him an anti inflammatory injection and said to see how he gets on. They also said that when he did wee it was very watery and she wasn’t sure why. We went home and I said I’ll update tomorrow to say how he’s doing. When I got home I was researching to see if I could find what’s wrong and thought it may be bloat so I sat massaging his stomach and he passed a few wees (the first being watery but the second two being a lot stronger smelling). He’s been on Baytree oil twice a few months ago from extra strong smelling wee and weeing in random places (like he couldn’t hold it). Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be or if it is bloat and what to do? He’s still eating, drinking and playing with his toys but I know something isn’t right and want to help him😞 Thank you

Bloat will cause a distinctive sound when you gently tap the tummy, piggy will look to have a big tummy and will be in pain. Massaging the tummy can help move the gas., but medication is needed as well as syringe feeding support etc. The guide here explais bloat. It is a very serious, emergency issue.
Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Strong smelling wee, uncontrollably urinating/problems urinating - could be urinary tract infection, bladder stone etc.

Switch from routine weekly to daily weighing so you can ensure his hay intake remains high - you can’t tell just by watching them that they are eating enough hay.

Sorry your boy is unwell. What is baytril oil? Do you mean oral? Is your vet experienced in treating guinea pigs?

I can’t tell you if it’s bloat. And seeing in random places is normal for guinea pigs. They’re incontinent and will usually go everywhere.

I’d consider getting a second opinion. See if you can find another vet on the locator below.

I mentioned to the vet that I was reading about bloat but she didn’t think it was that.
But yes, we believe he had a urine infection which the medicine did seem to fix (he was on it for one week but then it came back so they put him on for two weeks) and he’s been fine for a good month now but since yesterday something isn’t right.
And the vet I go to is an exotic vet but I'm going to give the vet from the vet locater a call to see what they suggest if they’re more focused on piggies. Xx

Oh yes! I couldn’t remember the exact name! She is an exotic vet but I’m definitely going to call a vet from the vet located on here to see what they say.

He has a kitchen area which he never wees in apart from when it’s been strong smelling and the medicine sorted that. I’m not sure why he never wees there normally😂
