my friend runs a small rescue from home and recently she had 2 18 month old brothers come in one is a peruvian who came to her with the hugest knot after a huge groom of his beautiful hair he is really thin, unlike his brother wavy who is a rex and is fairly chunky both have been wormed about a week ago, wavy the peruvian just isnt putting weight on and is really boney.

is there anything my friend can do or anything it could be?

Well it could be if he is or was sharing a cage then his brother may have been taking the food or alternitively it could be that he just doesn't like the brand he has. It might be an idea to go through different brands to find one he eats most of.

Hope I helped O0

Maybe now he is with you and being fed and cared for properly he will start to thrive.However,you do need to rule out any underlying health problem.I take it there is no parasitic problem?,in any case you have wormed him and bathed him so that should sort that problem anyway.I am sure you have already checked his teeth and noticed whether the chewing motion is normal.

Other causes for thinness are liver or renal disfunctions.

If there is no change in his condition after 2 or 3 weeks with you,maybe it would be best to get a piggy savvy vet to check him over.

Weigh him 2 or 3 times a week and if he is losing even more,would be best to get him to a vet earlier.

an appt is being made with vedra (cambridge cavy trust) as shes just up the road. hopefully it will just be the stress of his being moved etc :) thanks for your help!

I would worm him and check his teeth, I'm sure Vedra will do that too :) could also be a fungal mouth problem- again Vedra will spot it.

thanks chelsea for posting for me ;)

the babes are with me :)

they had never been wormed before but have been with valbasen and ivomec which vedra gave me for all the piggies and buns that come in.

i have text for an appointment :)

2200g = 4lb 13oz (approx)
1950g = 4lb 4oz (aprox)

These weights mean you have 2 huge boys :)

Yes,recheck the weights, this seems too heavy. Boars can go to around 4lb(I have 2 that are just over 4lb) but 4lb 13 oz is a bit much.Are you sure your scales are o.k.?

ok it was me cos there new :embarassed:

patch is 950g ish
wavy is 1100grams ish :S

gonna get me some baby digital scales me thinks :embarassed: O0
