Hello,

Our Pan has been sick for about a week, at the vets every day for fluids, is on painkillers, metacam and metoclopramide. He started the week at 978g and now hes down to 830g. He tries to eat but dependent on critical care to keep his weight from dropping even more. He doesnt have regular stool and mostly pretends to eat. We give his tummy a massage but doesnt help. Anyone have had similar issues that used something else that helped? We're at the vet every day but desperate to try anything to help him.

I’m sorry to hear this.
Has he had any tests done to find out what is wrong with him?
Mystery weight loss is a difficult thing to deal with.

How much critical care are you getting into him each day?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We had tests done with blood, x-ray and stool but nothing came back as a problem.

The last feed was 3-4mls over about 90 minute period before going to the vet this morning again, because he just wont eat. We try and do feeds of 15mls multiple times a day but when you try and feed him more cc, the previous bit is still in his mouth and he drools it out his mouth. He had a tiny bit of a banana that got the first 1ml down and then a tiny mint leaf to get the second bit down today. He tries to eat but just doesn't seem able. He's also on subcutaneous fluids because he just wont take anything.

Were his mouth and teeth checked?
Drooling is a sign of an inability to swallow but that can be because of a dental issue (overgrown teeth trapping the tongue), mouth issue such as oral thrush or actually a blockage.

Yeah, his mouth and teeth were checked as it had broken off and we wanted to make sure it was growing back fine. My wife back from todays vet visit said it was Ileus. He's had chronic diarrhea but without being in pain for years. Tests didnt show up anything then and we've just managed it since. Oddly enough since his BFF past away and we got a rescue pig for company, that seemed to clear up.

*part of his bottom tooth had broken off so we had his teeth and mouth checked before.
