So I had a guinea who recently had to be be PTS. He wasn't eating his hay but he was eating fruits and veggies. I was also giving him critical care. He lost 1/2 his weight even with the feeding and he began to act like he wasn't sure in his footing. I mean that he would jump (not far or anything) but he wouldn't make it or would slip and such. Eventually he ended up passing away 2 weeks ago. But now my other guinea pig is doing the same.
He won't eat hay but will eat fruits and veggies, he's started to be unsure in his movements at times, and he (along with the other pig) both, like, stretch their jaw when eating.

When I took the last pig to the vets we had his teeth unsharpened but that didn't improve.
Any advice?

I am very sorry; it rather sounds like something that is either infectious or environmental (toxic) that could affect the brain/balance.
How much did you syringe feed?
Stopping to hay/pellets i.e. fibre can be down to teeth, a digestive problem or most often to a pain issue somewhere in the body. Has your vet checked for an ear infection?

Here is our syringe feeding guide; it also has tips as to the amounts in various situations: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Could you please add your country, state/province or UK county to your details, as we have got members from all over the world and our advice can differ accordingly to climate, availability of products/vets/rescues etc. Please click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you.

Are you seeing a general vet? Are your guinea pigs indoors or outdoors?

We have got a piggy savvy UK vet locator on the top bar. Here is the Guinea Lynx link for recommended vets in other countries.

Hello

Really sorry to hear about the guinea pig you lost. I don't know what could be wrong with your other one but if he's eating veg then that is a hopeful sign. Whereabouts are you so that we can recommend a vet? Will Let our health experts know about this thread to see if they can help you.

Ahh Wiebke you got here before I had chance to tag you!

Sounds like a pain response to me too. Does his breath smell at all? maybe stale like a damp dishcloth?

No his breath doesn't smell.

I am going to the vets on Wednesday (tomorrow) and getting some pain mess and something to help him eat more.
