On Sunday I moved two new middle-aged female guinea pigs (Suzie and Daisy) in with Jessie, my lonely middle-aged female. Jessie has been chattering her teeth at them and taking dominance. I put in a few shoe boxes as shelters so they have somewhere to go but now none of them seem to come out and interact with each other at all. In fact one of the new guinea pigs, Suzie, has now moved upstairs and has stayed up there for the past two days without going down and seeing the other two.

I'm a little bit worried because I want them to bond and be able to communicate but I don't want to force them if they are scared of Jessie. What can I do? Or will they just work it out in their own time?

Thank you

Can you give them run/play time together and feed them where they have to interact more? But make sure that it's on neutral ground.

Or can you have Daisy just living in a comartment where she is separate but can interact and get hopefully more used to being with Jessica through mesh/bars?

Sometimes bonding takes time, and not all piggies take to each other instantly.

When bonding guinea pigs, they should meet each other in neutral territory where none of them have been previously. You should also give them 3 of everything for now. Are they living in a cage or a hutch as this should be cleaned out fully to remove Jessie's smell. Good luck xx

I have been giving them three of everything :D

I think I'll put all three of them outside in their run tomorrow, and then they can maybe communicate more. And I'll scrub the hutch to try to get rid of Jessie's smell.

If I put them all in the run, should I still put three dishes of food down? Or just the one so they have to share?

I would try and put one big flat plate down and see what happens.
