Norton anti virus Help!

I am stuck as usual with Norton anti virus! :embarassed:We have been using Norton for years on the main pc in our house, tonight as our subscription was running out we decided to upgrade from the old version 2004 to the new 2007 version.

It now wont install until i uninstal the old programme - Ive tried to do this but with no luck (my knowledge in this area is dire) am worried i will uninstall the wrong thing!

Norton old version runs out in the next day or 2 so will be without cover til i get this 07 version installed.

Ive gone into remove progs and thought id done right thing.

Any ideas what to do? I get so annoyed i dont understand whats going on and just cant get this sorted. I'm going to get AVG on my laptop but this pc is parents and they want Norton on as we are happy with it.


Am feeling very silly and stuck! Any ideas anyone?

What error message are you getting when you try to uninstall?
 
Its saying i cant install new norton until i uninstall old version, am getting very stressed over this as I'm really tired having been online over an hour trying to sort this!

Also got fatal error earlier :o
 
But what happens when you try to uninstall the old version?
 
Well i thought i had uninstalled it! so re started it and tried to downlaod new one but it said the same so tried again and it started uninstalling then box came up saying uninstall failed with options to abort, retry or cancel, retry didnt work?

Its got me all confused now so will leave it til after work tomorrow and have another go!

I dont understand how this seems so hard to sort - if you upgrade from one norton to another why do i need to get into complicated things like uninstall!

Can see us having to try to find someone to come round to fix this!

Before we try anything else you could do a System Restore, and then try uninstalling again.
 
panic time now as i just restarted pc and it says i have no firewall or security on! tried to download new one still stuck!

Ive got my credit card logged on things like play and amazon so really hope I'm not at risk!

This is getting me very stressed!

Will try to work out how to do system restore!
 
Ok dont panic! If you need some protection till you can get it sorted then you can download a free anti virus programme called AVG, it's good, i use it.

To system restore go to Start - Programmes - Accesories - System Tools. and you will find it there.

Norton can be noytoriously hard to uninstall, there are instructions for manual removal on the website but it appears to be down at the mo. But i will try again later. :)

Have done that, still saying i have no firewall or virus protection but falling asleep now so will have to risk it and sort tomorrow eve now!

Well I'm pleased to say its all sorted now!

An online guinea pig friend (Dave from Kazzies cavies) has kindly spend over an hour talking me thru uninstalling and installing Norton.

Bev thanks so much for all your help last night :) i was so stressed last night!

So glad its normal service again here!

Reading through this reminds me of those simulation training exercises when you talk through something with a counsellor! Wish I had your knowledge Bev.
