Eric has been making a noise like "tutututututututututut" which is quite loud and he only does it when he's lying down and his jaw moves side to side when he's doing it. He's still having problems with his abscess at the moment. The noise sounds like he is unhappy.

Can anyone tell me what this noise means? It sounds angry, but I wonder if it could be pain as there doesn't seem to be anything upsetting him. He's eating fine, so I'm not sure if it's pain or not?

That sounds like teeth chattering which is normally an aggression thing. I hope some of the others can help with reasons he may be doing this

Yep, as Charlie said it sounds like teeth chattering. Personally, I don't think it's just an aggression thing, as one of my boys is as soft as butter, but he makes it when he's nervous. (Like getting a bath or something!) It could be discontentment with the pain of his abscess.

Hope he gets better soon.

They can grind their teeth and make that noise when they're unhappy or uncomfortable. I've heard some pregnant sows do it when they're big and uncomfortable and just want to rest!

Now I'm wondering if he's not unhappy at all - he was doing it last night while sitting on my knee having cuddles. I wasn't holding on to him, just stroking him, and he could have run away if he'd wanted to. Maybe it's his happy noise? He also does it when he's curled up in his bed?

Now I'm thinking he's making this noise when he wants anything. He makes it before I bring breakfast, when he's fed up and wants to come out, when Babe wanders off and leaves him, when he wants his chin tickled... It seems to be just an order for someone to do something! Very confusing!...
