Hi all!
Dont know if I'm repeating an old post so apologies in advance:x
My guinea pigs seem to be very NON vocal:(
I never really hear them and have never heard a wheek or a squeek:0
I think they may ahve had a rough time before they came to me but is there anything I can do to get them wheeking?
I would love to hear that their happy:))

I posted something similar, just a week after I adopted my boys. They were really quiet, but it was just them getting used to me and they needed to feel more settled. Now, after just two weeks they have started to feel more confident and the wheeks are starting! Especially when they hear the rustle of a food bag, the tapping of the ceramic food bowl, they'll give some little wheeks. It's a beautiful noise. :)) Your piggies probably are the same, they just have to get used to a routine and familiar sounds that they associate with yummy food! Singing to them was also suggested - if it works, try it. I'm sure they'll be wheeking before you know it :)

Give them time; some piggies take a long time to learn to trust a new home!

It might help to turn everything into a ritual that is always repeated, especially dinner time! Rustling or a special phrose or call with help. Piggies usually latch on food signals pretty quickly.

Above all - be patient with piggies from a bad background.

My piggie Gertie is non vocal. She's nearly 2. I've never heard her do anything really apart from the time one of the boars accidently got of their hutch and chased her. Appart from that, never heard a squeak. I am assuming this is normal for her, because she lived with a very vocal piggy.rolleyes

I wouldn't worry. xx

How are they set up? I know you have the 3 girls all together (are you moving them before birth?)

And then the boar, is he on his own? Can he see another pig?

And where do you keep them?

I agree with the posts about routine, once they associate the noise of something with food then the wheeks will start.

Your lot will feel much better once secure, itch and pain free and know the routine - esp around food.
