Esme is nearly 10 months old. We have had her since 19th March and she has been steadily gaining weight but this week she has maintained and not gained. Should I be worried or do they not gain weight weekly when growing?

I wouldn’t be concerned for her to maintain her weight for a week, particularly if this is the first time it’s happened since you’ve had her. You may find a gain next week.

I think you are looking for an upward trend at 10 months, so hopefully Esme will put some on next week. I have found this, they start growing in spurts when they get past that baby strange. Hector didn’t put any weight on for two weeks, then suddenly put 35 gms on

I have the same with Cleo who’s coming up to 8 months, she’s not gaining every week like she was but because she’s maintaining her weight I don’t worry about it really xx

Hi

Esme is simply at the age where she has got most of her adult weight and any further growth will only happen in spits and spurts. So far, she has been making up lost ground from her previous life on the richer diet you have been feeding but she has obviously caught up now.

Nothing to worry about at all. The fast growth phase with a weekly growth rate usually only lasts until around 4-6 months of age. From then on in you have phases of stable weight with less and less spurts of growth as she is coming up to adulthood.

Esme has gained 20g this week which means she’s gained nearly 100g since her and Ella arrived 7 weeks ago :) I’m so relieved. I think she’s going to be a big guinea pig

That is about appropriate for her age so I would stop worrying about any off and on weight gain.

Piggies on a good general diet will realise their optimal genetic weight/size ratio by the time they reach adulthood, not matter whether they are quick growers that then slow down a lot or whether they are slow and steady growers. All of my own piggies of all sizes and starts in life have done that. Trust in your good care.

What a gorgeous lady 😍 She could be in a big girl club with Pewter! She weighed about the same at that age. She’s now 14 months old and weighs a whopping 1300g!
