Hi,

My guinea pig Lincoln has recenetly had an obsession with nipping me constantly. He runs after me and tries nipping my feet. Any chance he gets he nips by arms, legs, fingers, neck and even face. I don't think his being nasty as he licks it after. I think he just gets to excited. Does anyone know the real reason he might be doing this? and how do i discourage it? or do all guinea pigs do it?

I'm worried he might start biting me :{

Thanks in advance

naughty lincoln

i am no expert, but as lincoln has no guinea pig friend as guinea pigs are social animals and need piggy company, i am thinking he thinks you are a guinea pig and he is asserting his dominence to be top piggy.
again i am not sure but if a dog or cat did this you would put them down and ignore them, not sure if this would work for a piggy.
all i can suggest is to wear shoes, have lincoln out wrapped in a towel and have food treats for him to munch on.
is he eating alright? do you think his teeth could be a problem? hoping the little nipper stops nipping soon and hopefully someone with more experience will come on and help you.
i know when zoe or jessie nip us we nose butt them away, it seems to work, worth a shot.
lucky girl you now have two boyfriends :)):)):)) do you like them tall dark and handsome or short light and cute:(|):(|):(|)

Yup that sounds like he miss's companionship, could you get him a friend ? I know it seems like a big step or hard stepto take but trust me, its the most awarding thing ever to see your first piggy light up ! :) :) :)

Thanks

thanks :) i really want to get him a friend but at the moment were in abit of trouble. Me and my boyfriend both lost our jobs in the same week. Ive applied for loads and so has my bf. I dont want to get another guinea until i know i have plenty of money to spoil them. I'm also very scared @) what if they fight and hurt eachother? I couldn't see my Lincoln hurt. I have no idea what i would do. I want a rescue piggy this time not a pet shop one. Could i have them in separate cages but have them side by side?
Wish i would have got two piggys from the start nw :( feel awful.
Chloe his eatin fine no change in his behaviour apart from the nipping. Your theroy that he thinks I'm his guinea friend makes sense. His always jumping all over me and he jumps up me wen his on the floor wen he wants to go back. his like a lil human lol.
Has anyone paired guineas later on? How do i do this? His about 9months old if that makes a difference?
Thanks

(choloe i like them Short, light and cute lol)

I have paired youngsters with older boars sometimes with success but not with others but i think thats probably because i have girls as well in the same shed

It would be nice for him to have a friend but i understand completely your reasons though 1 extra wouldnt be that much more anyway !

Oh love i'm so sorry about your job situation grrrrrrrrrrrrr how dam frustrating and really worrying for you both 8... HUGS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Each time he does this perhaps offer him some food and try to get him not so focused on you............when he's out could you perhaps make sure you've got a treat for him, then he'll associate you with good things and love the idea of a treat and not even thing about nipping you !
he's obviously got into a habit, keep trying to disuade him, but don't get cross with him or frighten him as he may then not know what to do.... you have to now teach him again that you're the good person and the food person xoxo
Keep up with the lots of loves and have the treats ready each time!

Thanks Glynis. I normally use dill wen his out the cage. he loves it. I think it abit my fault his nipping so much as it was funny at the start wen he just startin nipping people rings on there fingers and i was silly to incourage that. His nipping doesnt hurt at all and he licks it after. Maybe he just likes tasting diff areas I'm not sure. i don't want him to start biting but i dnt think he ever would. his a very loving piggy so cannot imagine him doing that.
Ye the job situation isnt good. Very stressed out house at the moment. my younger brother has now came 2 live wit us as he has nowhere to go. I'm sure everything will work out thou xx

Yes cages are so expensive i have been lucky with mine which i use as spares i kept checking the freeads etc and found them for about £10 and some ive been given free and all they needed was a good scrub

You have one lucky piggy there just enjoy him and when things improve you can decide then he sounds happy !
