Nipping my fingers during floor time

Had my two girls out on the floor today and had been feeding them lettuce. They were wandering around my legs and Saffy nipped my fingers a few times so I moved my hand away. Was this likely to have been a display of dominance/ maybe displeasure/ or viciousness or could it simply have been the smell and taste of lettuce on my hands?

some of mine sometimes do this. I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes while having a snuggle some of my sows lick me and nibble in an effectionate way. Other times if i smell like food they will nibble, probably what they did with you. Be careful hand feeding, if i get my fingers in the way of teeth they bite me unintentially because they are too busy eating to distinguish between my hand and food.

My son found that out when he first fed them and got his thumb chewed! She's normally fine with me so perhaps it was the lettuce scent! I did wonder as she's the neurotic one so can be unpredictable
