Hi all

Does anybody else's piggies nibble and gnaw the side of their C&C cages? Mine are just eating away at the correx like it's made of lettuce or something! To the point where they are eating it down to the floor! I have just recently changed the correx base to a new one as all they hay etc was constantly spilling out onto my floor as they had nibbled so low.

Firstly, this is a bit concerning as obviously they must be swallowing most of this which is not good at all!

Secondly, it's driving me insane! The nibbling and the noise is one thing, but also iv gone through the correx much quicker than usual and I can't afford to keep replacing it just for them to eat away at again. Once this one goes they will have to go back into their original cage that I bought when I first had them as babies and this is quite a significant downsize in cage size which I really, really don't want to do to them!

I have 2 sows who are 2 years old and get on very well with each other.

Does anybody have any ideas of how I can stop/prevent this?

Mine are doing this so I can sympathize with you, as you say it is not cheap or easy to replace.
I did wonder whether you could get the same suff that is used to prevent you knocking you car doors against the wall , like a strip of plastic, but in long lengths, not sure where to buy from though.
Some people I have heard use tile edging too, the plastic strip, but how too attach it is the thing.
Hope someone has the answer, I will keep coming back to this to find out.

Two of my girls love eating coro so I bough some spine bars ( the ones to use to join/ bind documents) and slid it all around the cage. It is too hard so to hey can't nibble at it. Where a edge shows ( because I extend the coro) I drape a small bit of fleece and secure with a binder clip. Worked well for me :)

The binder plastic is a good idea, thank you. But the only thing is now that they have already taken a few chunks out so it won't be easy now to put it on and get it to stay there :(

I don't understand what the appeal is, it's not like it tastes nice (I wouldn't have thought). Maybe it's the texture. Or maybe they are bored.

My boys like to chew bits of their correx as well, I've secured fleece over it with metal clips and that's put a stop to it! I also put in lots of willow chew toys for them instead as my boys are silly and don't like chewing the kitchen roll tubes!

My girls are weird, they don't chew any of their 'furniture' or anything I have put into that is supposed to be chewed on. They literally either eat their food or chew on the correx. I could probably put all sorts of toys etc in and I doubt it would make a difference :/

I know how you feel, I had a CC cage for a couple years and one day my girls just decided they wanted to chew the edges, no matter how many clips i put on the got under the fleece and chewed it to pieces. I ended up getting rid of my CC cage, they're now in two furplast cages joined together which I personally prefer to the CC cage.

I wish there was a way I could attach some of the C&C grids to my Ferplast to make it bigger. But I can't think of a way to do it...if anyone has done this it would be great to know how you did it :)
