Hi all.... I'm about to cause pos divorce proceedings with my next task... to get the GPs indoor's for the cold weather. Like a few on here who have posted I have a hubby who was adamant we were not having GPs at all.. but myself and 7yr old battled to get our two little girls in may. I have had constant battles as I want them to come into our small 2nd lounge . Anyway he put foot down but i think I'm going to get a cage anyway. Biggest issues... he hates pets.. pet smells... mess of any kind. Looking at these cages but not sure... c&c definitely out but I will let them out for floor time too.. 1st one eco friendly large at 118 x 78.5 x61 ... so not as long as 2x4 c&c but bit wider also vet and BNA approved? ? Not sure why need lid on? But will keep straw n sawdust off floor.... next is ferplast casita 120... 119x58x61 smallet but cheaper at £60. ... or a corner 2 tier which is over 100cm down each side and 141 from right front to left.. my piggies have no issues at all with ramps and I have a tunnel in their outdoor hutch that can go in here... just can't decide this corner one looks hard to clean though

Can't get the pics on

If you really looking for a commercial cage then I would recomend the ferplast (120 or bigger). I have the 120 but we haven't really used it as we leave our girls in the puppy pen instead. I looked at the casita 120 but I didn't like the opening being at the top and much prefer the original ferplast 120 with big side openings.
Here is s pic of ours (before our girls came home...hence tidy cage/empty litter tray!):))

Why can't I get the pics on like that! Yes think seen your puppy pen... fab. But with a hubby who's going to hit the roof... they need to be contained at least in something

That's why I quite liked the eco glass looking one as similar size... tiny bit shorted than 2x4 c&c but closed sides to stop anything going on carpet and should be easy to clean... just need to get these pics on so can see... cos not sure why it needs a roof... maybe to stop them climbing out?

Oh, I do like that one!
I do recommend the ferplalst also, it is a very sturdy cage, but then again it is the only commercial one I have ever used, so you might want a second opinion on that!:))
I think that the eco friendly one is lovely though...

Thanks Eilidh.. I like it too and it gets great reviews.. some too good even which makes me wonder! It's hard this trying to do the best for them while also trying to upset hubby as little as poss..:soz:

I understand that it must be so hard for you to do this but you are clearly a great piggy owner to fight for them like that.
I did have a look over the ferplalst reviews earlier also, and I see what you mean about some of them being too good!
P.S. I'm sure your hub will come round eventually...

I've got a Little Friends 160 x 80, to big for you but they make a 140. Lovely big doors for access and it also opens at the top. My man is not a pet lover either and my piggies were to go outside, they arrived home in December 2014 when the temp had just dropped to -5 at night so they were allowed inside as they were 'little babies'. 2 years on they are still inside, he feeds them veggies every morning and they are now termed 'our guineas'! That's the famous guinea pig magic. IMG_6166.webp IMG_7550.webp After modification, adding a loft and ramp.

That would be my dream! I think it's more the mess smell etc. He has OCD...tho he wouldn't admit it... he is very OTT on tidiness and he hates the look of a cage I think so thinking this eco looks a little more like furniture

What about some kind of wood and plexi glass diy cage ... ? It would need to be home made.

I got some grids which are metal frames with plastic instead of grid. They are marketed as a shoe rack on ebay and cost less than twenty quid.

Well I'm awful at any diy. .. I have grids but he hates them too so I use them for floor time which works great once they all up but I then have to put them all away after when they go back in their hutch... this eco habitat that I tried to link further up... not sure if you can see fits perfect into the space next to the sofa so they wouldn't be in middle of floor... zooplus have the large on for £149 but i can get a near new.. not been used for £90. Sounds like a plan I think just hope that he let's us try or that will be £90 down drain!... it's 120x60x44 so really the biggest I can fit into the space

That does sound like a good solution. Hope it works well for you and hubby and of course for the guinea pigs.

If the eco fits your space and you feel it will be acceptable to your hubby then that's the one you should go for. OCD can be difficult to live with (from either side), we both have it in varying forms and have to work round each others foibles ( to put it politely!), so you have my sympathy there. Good luck, I'm sure you will work something out.

That's the worrying bit. He is adamant that there will be no piggies in the house... but has sort of accepted them inside for floor time as I try and clean everything up when they have gone... I'm just hoping this eco will look better than he thought and keep mess to a minimum ... otherwise we are going to be very stuck as I have just bought it! And I feel they need to come inside. The timid one flossy has always been a lot smaller. Tilly tries to eat everything and guzzle 's it so fast that it's hard to give flossy food before tilly comes along and grabs it. Flossy eats very slow and looks so small now compared to tilly I feel indoors I can feed her more on her own . As outside it takes about 20mins just to catch her... she knows all the best hiding places! So going to use that as my excuse why I went behind his wishes... fingers crossed

Try giving them smaller amounts at opposite ends so that they can eat them faster and Flossy will get a chance to eat too.

Yes I try and do that tilly whow is there as soon as she hear me follows my hand where ever it goes trying to see if I have anything for her... so she will get a piece of what ever. By the time I have coaxed flossy out or even found her till is there wanting her bit too... so she gets taken back up to the top level n given another bit. Flossy is just so slow at eating ... I make sure she eats something every time even try and hide stuff for tilly so she can hunt round to delay her eating so fast everything while I hand feed flossy but in the end tilly is twice the size or looks it! Hoping that when they are not in a double hutch which they do love the 2 levels to get away from each other that I can even take tilly out when she's had hers while flossy eats or something
