Hi everyone

can i use newspaper and shred it to use for bedding for my guineas?

x

i have got warm bedding for them its that blue and white shreded stuff but they just push it all out, my mum has got a lot of newspapers down her house and i thought i could use it.

hay would be better, piggies like to nibble on newspaper and although I do use as a bottom layer wouldn't want a ton of it about as they would eat it all. It's ok to be eaten a little but a big amount could cause problems. I suppose it depends on your piggies though as they might not like to eat it as much!

my piggies are the same they go nuts for newspaper so my cages are also lined in newspaper and then lots of hay on top x

i don't tend to use hay for bedding as i heard that it's better to just give them hay in a hayrack. they have a fleece blanket but tbf they do live indoors so aren't at risk of getting cold.

i have fleece in my C&C cages and the piggies like it alot i just found they prefer hay more natural i guess?/

I use shredded newspaper for all my boars. They have just gone outside for the summer so they get shredded newspaper in the bedroom with a small amount of hay and then just sheets of newspaper to line the hutch with, they get the odd handfull in the main hutch bit to snuggle into and then they have hay in a rack.
In the winter they are indoors so the indoor cages are filled with shredded news paper and they have their hay in the rack. My four dont seem interested in eating it so I'm lucky.
