Would newspaper in their hay box where they pee a lot be ok?
They are going through the wood shavings like crazy! So I was looking for a more practical alternative. I’m just worried as it’s not as absorbent that their feet will get too wet even with twice daily cleaning?

Newspaper is fine provided you clean out daily.
I use newspaper and then a layer of bedding and then hay in their entire cages.

I use something called snowflake softchip and I find it much better than shavings.

I have newspaper under hay in some of my hay areas. As long as you have a nice deep pile of hay their feet aren't on the wet newspaper. I change the paper once daily unless it's soaked.

I don’t no. Just a thick layer of shavings x

I use a few sheets of newspaper under the hay in my hay trays. Works really well, And I don’t change the hay trays for a few days sometimes (life’s busy, I have lots of pigs). But I do top up hay twice a day
