Newspaper - will they eat?

Just set up my new cage which will soon house my first pigs. I have lined the cage with some newspaper and then a good layer of wood chips and carefresh. My only concern is that the way i have arranged the newspaper, it comes up the sides further than the chips/fresh. Is this a problem? Wondering if i should rearrange so that the newspaper round the other way, therefore not up the side?
 
My boys nibble on the newspaper a bit. They have loads of fresh hay / toys but still like the occasional bite of newspaper. (or kitchen roll / cardboard tube - they're not fussy!) I dont think it does them any harm. I'd leave the cage how you've set it up - the newspaper sticking up will make it easier to gather the other bedding up to replace it. If they have access to plenty of hay they shouldnt be too interested in the newspaper after the ititial "ooh what's this? I dont know but let's eat it". :)) Good luck with the new piggies - looking forward to pics!

my boys always shred the newspaper under their hay, they seem to think of it as a game! They love eating cardboard too, wine boxes are a particular fave at the moment - dont think it does them any harm.
 
Don't worry, ours eat loads of it, it does them no harm at all. Poppy in particular likes to rip big bits off and sit there munching looking all pleased with herself. Jeff likes it best if he finds a nice thick bit where he can chew through all the layers. Very annoying when you've just cleaned them out and they ruin it, but that's pigs!
 
I like to line the base of the pigloos with newspaper, although my lot seem to shred the edges every time I change it!

One of mine seems to LOVE soggy newspaper and will spend hours chewing on the soggy patches where the water bottle... :x
 
Hi, mine love newspaper - reading it and eating it! ha ha

Seriously, I dont think that it does any harm. I remember reading one of the Peter Gurney Guinea Pig books and he mentioned that his ate it as well.

my piggies wear newspaper as hats!

They shred it up, wear it, and eat it :-)

Uk newspapers use non toxic inks as far as I am aware :-)
