Hi,
I was wondering if you should or should not use shredded news paper for the bedding? and is it bad to use it for flooring?

It would probably work, especially if you put hay on top.

Newspaper is not poisonous anymore, they stopped using lead based ink ages ago.

My piggies have their hutch lined with newspaper, then a layer of megazorb and loads of hay. It's easy-peasy to lift out when I clean their cottage out. I'm sure shredded paper will do the trick just as well too.
My boys seem happy enough! :)

I have been trying to litter train my piggies using newspaper bedding. I wash it first so that it comes out looking like a cross between Tesco Ultra-Absorbant Paper Cat Litter and Carefresh but without the horrid smell of the Tesco stuff.

I put it in a cat litter tray. It is 100% successful with my bunny but only semi-successful with the piggies. They do most of their urinating in the box or around it and some of the poos. I also have other little shoebox loos around the floor which they use but I still find some poo all over the place too.

The good thing about it is that it should be biodegradable and I have been emptying the litter tray straight onto the compost heap. I do not know if it makes good compost yet as I have only been doing it for a few weeks.

I put some hay on top too.

I use newspaper to line the bottom of the cage...its really easy to just lift it out :)

we use sheets of newspaper in our hutch then put sawdust & hay on top :) its good because it soaks up the wee & stops it making the bottom of the hutch soggy.

I'm just wondering too, can you shred up normal paper to use as a bedding?

(Thinking of using it in outdoor hutch with layer of newspaper under, and lots of hay on top).

Thanks
