Hey
Just been having a quick look through some of the topics and I notices a comment about a guinea first aid box.
Just wondering can you actually get them ready made or if you put one together yourself? If so what is it I would need to get?
Thanks

I've had to make the boxes up myself. I've included things like critical care, infacol, cream, drops of mites, vit c drops.

Do you have any pictures of yours so I know what exactly to look for , I have vitamin drops

I think the basics would be:
Critical care or science selective recovery food
1ml and 2ml syringes
Probiotic like fibreplex or pro-C
Saline or hibiscrub for bathing small wounds
F10 disinfectant spray for the cage and F10 hand gel for your hands in case of an infectious disease
Surgical gloves for cleaning wounds and applying ointments etc.

All this stuff can be bought online from Amazon.

I think most people on the forum would advise not to buy low strength mite treatments but to wait until you have a correct diagnosis in case of mites and get a prescription product at the correct dosage for your piggies weight.

Over time and after many vet trips your first aid box might include medicines the vet has prescribed for particular piggies with particular recurring conditions, for example ranitidine for bloat or metacam/loxicom for pain relief, but these should only be included if your vet has prescribed them at the correct dose for your piggies weight. Then often for a recurring condition a quick call to the vet and you can administer medicines they've been prescribed before at home if they are still in date and you have some left over.

To be honest the things I generally have at home includes syringes in case they need syringe feeding. All medications, critical care etc has a use by date and I hate waste so I would rather make a special journey to obtain it or order it and pay next day delivery than constantly be buying stuff I don't need on the off chance. I feed mine pellets so I am quite happy to mush these up with some herbs etc in order to syringe feed them in an emergency while waiting
