Hi everyone;

I've been used to caring for house rabbits, and pre-kiddliwinks I rehomed and paired up quite a few! I was always insistent on keeping them indoors.

My kids have had hamsters in previous years with interest waning quite quick. We've baby sat at our house our friends Guinea Pigs very successfully and I've been impressed how hands on my kids were. I think it was a size thing, Hamsters are way too quick for little ones - my fault I admit.

So in terms of a pet for my 9 and 7 year olds I'm considering a pair of Guinea Wiggles but I want them INSIDE all year - except for outside runs on the grass in Summer... It will help keeping the kids interest and encourage more care and integration into family life!

I've looked online and seen cages such as these below. I like the look of them but what's great to look at may not be good for the inhabitants so I'm after your advice. I'd like to put the cage on a stand too.

What do you think? Also, I've seen some articles that suggest using wooden cat litter (as I used for the Bunnies) - is that OK really to use?

I look forward to hearing from you. Not taken this any further than research so far...

HI that ramp is extremely steep for piggies, my indoor cage is this one guinea cage.webp
it is 120 cm long and is great for two pigs. Lots of people use c and c but I don't have experience with this . Good luck with your search, it's good that you are looking into different options :D It's from zooplus

You'd have to get a longer cage than that I'm afraid, that doesn't look suitable for 2 piggies, have you got the dimensions for it? Plus you'd have to stagger the ramp as it's too steep. ;)

You sound a bit like me, I've had guinea pigs for 10 years but just had a new baby and came on here for advice. Things seem to have moved on a lot, cages are bigger, they are mostly kept indoors and bedding is more soft like fleece and vetbed, rather than wood shavings. That is a bit of a generalisation, but that's what I've found.

Good luck with your research!

Oh lordy! I love the C&C - I used to have those panels in the early 90's as shelving in my bedroom! Thanks for all your speedy feedback. In terms of size of indoor cage for a pair what's a good standard size - if its single tier, is it as entertaining as a two tier or is it all gimmick?

Single tier is all that counts in terms of floor space. The minimum you need for two piggies is 140 by 60 cm but I would always make it bigger.

I use finacard for my piggies litter trays and fleece in the rest of the cage.M y rats litter trays I use papelit which I get from the place I get finacard from.Papelit and finacard are softer on their feet
